Most US colleges that still want a test score accept both the Digital SAT (College Board) and the ACT. You should not automatically take both. Pick the format that matches how you already think, then drill that exam.

Superscoring: Many colleges superscore SAT, ACT, or both. Check each school. Do not assume you must send every sitting.
How to decide in one weekend
- Take one timed SAT diagnostic and one timed ACT diagnostic (even abbreviated).
- Compare percentile, not raw comfort. A “easier feeling” ACT with a weaker percentile is the wrong choice.
- Commit to one test for 4–8 weeks unless both percentiles are within a hair and you have spare weekends.
- Only double-track if a target school clearly prefers one exam or your counselor has a specific reason.
Content differences that actually matter
- SAT Math is algebra-heavy with a tighter formula surface; wordiness still matters because items are embedded in contexts.
- ACT Math runs through geometry and some trig more aggressively and is a speed test.
- ACT Reading is a timing grind (less time per passage). If you cannot finish SAT Reading with minutes left, ACT Reading may feel worse, not better.
- Science (ACT): if graph-reading is a strength, ACT Science can be free points. If it is a panic section, SAT avoids a dedicated science score.
