AI-102 Retired: AI-103 Is the Live Azure AI Associate Exam
In short
Microsoft retired AI-102 on June 30, 2026. AI-103 (Azure AI Apps and Agents Developer Associate) replaced it and is built around Microsoft Foundry, agents, and generative AI rather than a catalog of classic Cognitive Services.
What changed
- •AI-102 (Azure AI Engineer Associate) can no longer be earned or renewed as of June 30, 2026
- •AI-103 — Azure AI Apps and Agents Developer Associate — is the live replacement credential
- •Generative AI and agents are now a combined domain worth roughly a third of the exam
- •The exam is Foundry-first: planning, tool schemas, multi-agent orchestration, evaluation, and safety
- •CertStud's AI-102 question bank is archived; practice against the AI-103 hub instead
What changed
Microsoft retired AI-102 (Azure AI Engineer Associate) on June 30, 2026. The replacement is AI-103 — Azure AI Apps and Agents Developer Associate.
This is not a rename. AI-103 treats generative AI and agents as first-class exam content and assumes you work in Microsoft Foundry rather than assembling individual Cognitive Services endpoints.
What to do if you were studying AI-102
- Stop working through the AI-102 blueprint. It is no longer testable.
- Move to the AI-103 study guide and the AI-103 practice hub.
- Prioritise Foundry projects, tool schemas, retrieval, multi-agent orchestration, evaluation, and safety.
- Keep the parts of AI-102 that carry over — RAG, search, document intelligence, and responsible AI.
What to do if you already hold AI-102
The credential stopped being renewable after retirement. Treat AI-103 as the current proof of Azure AI app and agent skills.
